If you happen to be in the Meatpacking District in Manhattan you should stop by the Levi’s store at 414 West 14th Street. On view in the window is a stunning tapestry created by Rush Weavers in a fall apprenticeship at the Weaving Hand.
Below is an observation from Rush Education Coordinator, Dennis Buonagura, during a teaching session the day before Thanksgiving at our partner school P.S. 171. Great opportunity to reflect on the power art has to heal and give hope.

Ellsworth was a college professor, artist, and the patriarch of a family of great committed artists.. He was a promoter of and a constant figure at the openings that made Corridor gallery a Brooklyn cultural cornerstone and destination.

In this year which is the celebration of the 100 years of Romare Bearden’s birth we are presenting ten magnificent women artists who use collage to tell similar stories to those told by Romare Bearden. Each of these women use varying elements of collage making and storytelling to reflect issues of social and personal importance. Critiques of popular culture, political commentary, tales of history and struggle, personal insights into society and even themselves. The women selected for this show are in various stages of their artistic careers, some of these artists come new to collage art and some have been creating collages for decades

“I am honored that the Ubuntu Charity Benefit has chosen Rush Philanthropic as this year’s beneficiary. The old Ubuntu adage that “I am because you are” has never been more true. When we acknowledge the connectedness of all of us, and sow good seeds by supporting emerging artists, we uplift and empower entire communities,” says Russell Simmons, Rush Philanthropic Co-founder.
The fundraising portion of the benefit features an art-themed live auction benefiting the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation’s Artist in Residency program. For one year, an African artist will be chosen to train and gain exposure at the Rush Galleries in New York, made possible by the Artist in Residency opportunity.
